Hidden interior city

This project starts from on-site observations in the Vlaaikensgang in Antwerp.
By looking at how people move, stop, or conversely keep their distance, it became clear how behaviour, perception, and physical barriers activate the space. Based on these observations, I developed a mapping that puts experience and presence at the centre.
The mapping is inspired by the Nolli map, but goes beyond the classical division between public and private. It was developed using lino printing, a technique that lends itself particularly well to fragmentation: as a maker, you choose what is carved away and what remains. This deliberate selection makes barriers, fractures, and transitions explicitly visible.
From this horizontal reading, I developed a vertical section, structured as a series of micro-scenes in a leporello.
Together, the mapping and the vertical section make it legible how the Vlaaikensgang is constantly shaped by behaviour, signs, and spatial interventions, balancing between private and public.
